Loudness questions

What is LUFS?

LUFS measures perceived loudness over the whole track. Streaming platforms use it to turn loud songs down so listeners do not have to touch the volume.

Should I master as loud as possible?

No. If your track is louder than the platform target, it is simply turned down, and heavy limiting only costs you punch and dynamics. Aim near -14 LUFS with peaks under -1 dBTP as a safe starting point.

Why is my MP3 reading different from my WAV?

MP3 encoding changes peak levels slightly, and some decoders add a little gain. Measure the same file type that you will upload.
